LeBron James is currently playing in the 20th season of his NBA career. During his time in the league, James has broken a lot of records. Be it regarding scoring, rebounds, or assists, LeBron has achieved great numbers in all categories.

But even though LeBron James is one of the best players in the history of the league. Not many expected him to be on the verge of breaking Kareem Abdul-Jabbar‘s all-time scoring record.

Although LeBron has managed to be a good scorer throughout his career, Kareem’s record was considered to be untouchable. However, James is just under 200 points away from breaking that legendary record.

LeBron James On Getting Closer To Breaking Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s All-Time Scoring Record

LeBron James continued his sensational form this season against the Los Angeles Clippers. James managed to score 46 points and now has a record of scoring 40 points against all 30 teams in the NBA.

Although the Los Angeles Lakers ended up losing the game, James did his job. During the postgame conference, LeBron was asked about his thoughts on getting closer than ever to breaking Kareem’s scoring record.

(Starts at 4:04)

“I never thought that I could catch Kareem in scoring, that has never been something that has been on my mind. He’s lying there but he’s not a liar but he’s lying there for sure. I also think that he went to the roof in Oracle Arena and in that locker room and took that money too that we would try to go back and get when we went back for Game 7, too because it wasn’t there when we went back. I think he took that money and told us somebody else went up there and grabbed it. I don’t know as I get closer and closer I think I’ll start to feel more and more. … I’ve gone to this please by not even thinking about it or not even being at a moment just trying to play the game the right way.”

LeBron’s initial answer was about Los Angeles Clippers head coach Tyronn Lue mentioning that James used to think about breaking Kareem’s all-time scoring record. But James called out Lue for lying. Either way, James confirmed that he has never thought about breaking Kareem’s record.
