The Los Angeles Lakers had to ensure that they were going to put a solid, contending roster around LeBron James and Anthony Davis going into the 2023-24 season.

Rob Pelinka figured out at the trade deadline that the best way to do that is to add unique but effective role players around them. One of the players they acquired at the deadline was D’Angelo Russell, who despite some concerns, was brought back on an excellent deal by the team. And LeBron James seems happy about it.

LeBron James shared the post of Russell re-signing on his story, and this is a good sign considering all the rumors saying he wanted to play with Kyrie Irving.

D’Angelo Russell averaged 17.4 points and 6.1 assists for the Lakers in 26 games and even seemed like a great pickup in the first two rounds of the Western Conference playoffs. However, doubts about him earnestly began during the Western Conference Finals against the Denver Nuggets, in which he averaged 6.2 points per game as his team got swept.

But LeBron James doesn’t seem to have any issues with teaming up with Russell once more, he has seemingly bought into the talent D’Angelo possesses. The fact that the Lakers got him on a 2-year contract worth $37 million in total is a huge win for the front office, and he will help make them better going into the new season.

The Los Angeles Lakers Will Run It Back With Some New Additions

The Los Angeles Lakers will once again be expected to bring home another championship and they’re sticking to a formula that worked in the second half of last season

The team re-signed valuable role players like D’Angelo Russell, Austin Reaves, and Rui Hachimura, while also making moves for players like Gabe Vincent, Taurean Prince, Cam Reddish, and Jaxson Hayes. According to people like Kendrick Perkins, the Lakers have won free agency

The team needs to now focus on ensuring their new roster gels together and can function well around LeBron and AD. Russell needs to be the player to figure it all out, as he will be a key piece for them again moving forward. And if he can help them get to the playoffs, he will surely give himself another chance to improve on last year’s performance.
