The Los Angeles Clippers are set to maintain Russell Westbrook with them after the player showed good things during the 2023 NBA Playoffs. He was the reason why they competed against the Phoenix Suns in the first round, and the team wants to keep him for at least one more season.

Westbrook would demand a big contract on any other team, but the Clippers want to keep him and will use a hometown discount to try to lure him away from any other franchise.

“Sources say the team hopes to bring back Russell Westbrook at a hometown discount ($3.8 million) for a year, to be paid next summer with Early Bird Rights (like Nicolas Batum and, formerly with the team, Reggie Jackson),” Eric Pincus of Bleacher Report writes.

The Clippers are ready to compete once again and they’ll try to do so with Kawhi Leonard, Paul George and Russell Westbrook as their new Big Three. This can be a great situation for the Clips, who showed good things when Leonard and Westbrook shared the court.

If they can add George to the mix, and stay healthy for the entire season, this team could be the threat that everybody expects them to be since 2019. The team’s front office has made it clear they want to re-sign Westbrook, but it will come at a very low price for the point guard.

Westbrook Thrived On The Clippers During The 2023 NBA Playoffs

Russ cares about winning, and he wants to stay at home, which is why the Clippers have a big chance of landing him. After last season, nobody thinks he’s the terrible player that never meshed with the Los Angeles Lakers.

In fact, he became a key piece for the Clippers, helping them on the way to the 2023 NBA Playoffs and then battling against the Phoenix Suns in the postseason. Westbrook was an impressive two-way player that didn’t hold back against any challenge and led the team in several categories.

He averaged 15.8 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 7.6 assists in 21 games for the Clippers. After the playoffs arrived, Westbrook took his game to the next level, posting 23.6 points, 7.6 rebounds and 7.4 assists in the First-Round series against the Phoenix Suns.

Russ proved his value once again and the Clippers know he’s a player that can help them next season. It remains to be seen if the point guard takes this deal and stays at home or tries his luck somewhere else.
