Luka Doncic dominated in the Mavericks’ Game 5 win with an excellent two-way performance, putting up a 30-point triple-double. Doncic has been chirping with Thunder fans throughout this series and trash-talked Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and the OKC crowd after a block on Shai to seal the game.

Luka Doncic: “Give me that sh*t… F*ck yea!”

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander: “That was a foul.”

OKC Crowd: “Luka sucks!”

Doncic is a ruthless competitor, so he definitely enjoyed this interaction with Shai and Thunder fans. He already has some iconic playoff moments centered around trash-talk, so the Slovenian guard often gets going when disrespected by opposing players or fans. He opened up on how the chants of ‘Luka sucks’ get him going every time.

“I love it. And when they chant, ‘Luka sucks,’ it gets me going, it’s even better.”

Doncic is averaging 27.1 points, 9.6 rebounds, and 9.0 assists through the 2024 Playoffs. His numbers have been unimpressive by the lofty standards he has set, but his impact has still been felt. Luka is still the playmaking hub of the team and has enabled players like P.J. Washington and Derrick Jones Jr. to increase their scoring to cover up for his lower numbers due to a series of injuries.

There have been tense interactions between the Mavericks’ players and Thunder fans, with Doncic being a specific target of fan misbehavior.

Luka Doncic Has Endured A Lot Of Trash-Talk This Series

Luka has been the primary subject of fan chanting and gamesmanship this series, though it has backfired more often than not. In Game 1, a fan refused to give Luka the ball for an in-bounds play and threw it to the side. While Luka just shrugged his shoulders and ignored it, Kyrie Irving went off on the fan.

“Yeah the fans threw the ball away from Luka, and then he looked like, like — where I’m from, when somebody does that, that’s like almost it’s like, and he didn’t even look at Luka eye to eye, and Luka was very nonchalant about it like he was very cool about it, and for a fan to do that, then that’s my time to step in as a teammate and be like, what the fuck? What the fuck are you doing? Excuse my language for that.”

Luka was even targeted by fans in Game 2, with one courtside fan getting extremely personal with Doncic, something even he didn’t appreciate.

“That’s great for me. I love it. Just there was one guy courtside, going at my family. I don’t like that, man. You’re a grown-ass man. Just can’t do that. But I did nothing. I just went back. Nothing. But just it’s crazy. It’s a grown-ass man coming at my family. It’s kind of nuts.”

Luka loves interacting with fans, even if they’re trash-talking him. We know how he reacted to fan hatred while facing Phoenix on the road in Game 7, so it’s best if he continues doing that. As long as he is taking it, we know he will also be dishing it out.
