Magic Johnson Speaks About LeBron James Trade Rumors: “I Hope LeBron Is A Laker For A Long Time.”

LeBron James has surprisingly been linked with a move away from the Los Angeles Lakers after four years with the Californian franchise. The King just finished a season where he couldn’t lead them to the playoffs, marking the second time in his four-year tenure that he misses the big party.

This situation has led some people to suggest that instead of trading Russell Westbrook or Anthony Davis, the Lakers should cash in on LeBron’s pedigree and try to get a good return for the 4-time NBA champion.

Stephen A. Smith recently dropped that idea, and some people already got to work to find out what a LeBron James trade would look like. However, not everybody is entertaining that idea, and the man who brought LeBron to SoCal had something to say about it, claiming he hopes that the player stays with the team for a long time.

TMZ Sports ran into Magic recently and had some things to ask the 5x NBA champion, starting with all the rumors surrounding LeBron. Magic tried to play it off at first, but the reporter pushed and got some answers from the former executive.

“LeBron… I hope he is a Laker for a long time. I hope so,” Magic said.

Then, he was asked about the Lakers’ current head coach searching, but Johnson didn’t want to get into that.

“That’s it. That’s it. I don’t know [who they’re going to bring]… I don’t think Phil [Jackson] is going to coach again. But he’s helping with the look, so that’s good. He’s going to do what I’m sure Jeanie Buss and Rob Pelinka [ask him to do].”

Magic also clarified that he’d never take that job, but he’s confident that his team is doing the right thing to find a replacement for Frank Vogel.

Everybody wants to know what’s next for the Lakers, but only they have the answers. We can speculate about LeBron or the new head coach all we want, but the team is carrying out this job very carefully, trying to find the best solution for everybody within the organization.
