Marc Gasol joined the Los Angeles Lakers in 2020, as he was brought in to fill up the gaps in the center position.

The Lakers lost JaVale McGee and Dwight Howard after the two cashed in on their high value after winning the 2020 NBA championship.

Gasol signed a team-friendly contract, joining the team his brother Pau won two NBA championships with. Interestingly, the Lakers drafted Gasol in 2007 but then traded him to Memphis for his older brother.

In between that time, Gasol had a big journey in the NBA. He became an All-Star and a Defensive Player Of The Year in Memphis. And in the later years of his career, won an NBA championship in Toronto.

Gasol returned to the Lakers as an accomplished veteran who could perform well for him. But father time had not been kind to Gasol’s game, as he had slowed down significantly over the years.

Gasol eventually got replaced out of the Lakers’ rotation by mid-season acquisition Andre Drummond. He earned back his minutes thanks to some poor performances by Montrezl Harrell.

But in the larger picture, the signing did not work out for either party. Since then, the Lakers have made a lot of moves in the offseason.

Most notably, the Lakers have strengthened at the center position, re-signing Dwight Howard and DeAndre Jordan recently. These signings have put Gasol’s future into question.

And it appears that he will no longer play for the Lakers. According to The Athletic, Marc Gasol will not return to the Lakers next season.

With a limited time left before the start of the season, there is no guarantee which team Gasol will play for next season.

On top of that, Marc has stayed silent on the subject of his future since his stint with the Spanish national team at the Olympics. So it will be interesting to see where the Spaniard ends up next season.
