The Boston Celtics are playing the 2022 NBA Finals, trying to win the championship for the first time in 14 years against one of the biggest dynasties the NBA has seen in recent times. The C’s aren’t afraid of anything. They easily handled the Brooklyn Nets, had to work hard to beat the defending champions Milwaukee Bucks and then do the same against the No. 1 seed in the East Miami Heat.
Boston has a well-rounded and well-coached team led by their Big 3 of Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown, and Marcus Smart. These three have evolved together in the past couple of seasons and now are ready to take that final step and win it all in a very difficult Finals matchup.
After a tumultuous start to the season when Smart called out Tatum and Brown for not passing the ball enough, the 17-time NBA champions changed their energy and started playing great basketball, which is the main reason why they are three wins away from clinching that 18th championship.
Smart recently talked with Sportskeeda’s Jeff Skversky to discuss a variety of topics, including his relationship with Tatum and Brown. Contrary to what many believed, they are great friends, and JT and JB confirmed that when they flew to Dallas to support Smart after his mom sadly passed away:
“My mom passed; they flew all the way to Dallas to the funeral. That was for real. It wasn’t no tactic. It was nothing. That was me being who I am, and that was true. We have a special bond outside of basketball, and you know, to be able to go to war with those guys makes that bond even stronger”, Smart said.
Marcus is willing to do anything for his teammates and he isn’t shy to admit it. He knows that’s important if they want to win and is ready to do whatever it takes to help them:
“But me just being me and helping my teammates in any way I can, I know what it feels like to be going through something individually and just be keeping it in or struggling with it. So I just wanted to let them know, we can express it here. We can talk about it. Whatever we need, man. We’re brothers, and that’s what it is”, Smart said prior to the 2022 NBA Finals.
“Whatever I can do to help my teammates, I’m going to do it. If that’s talking to them, sitting down; if that’s chewing them out or getting on them for something that they know we all know they should or shouldn’t do, and vice versa with me. I think that’s what makes our bond special”.
The Celtics indeed have a special bond and if they keep their current pace, it’ll be hard for the Warriors to beat them in the Finals. Boston is inspired after beating incredible teams and they aim to add another one to the list in a magical 2021/22 NBA season.
