Mark Cuban DMs A Mavericks Fan To Tell Him They Can’t Offer Collin Sexton A Contract: “You Need To Learn How The CBA Works”

3 Min Read

The Dallas Mavericks have had a rough offseason with the departure of Jalen Brunson and the lack of an adequate replacement. While the Mavs are hoping that the return of Tim Hardaway Jr. to the lineup after spending most of last season injured will help alleviate the points deficit, but the fans have been asking for more.

Since Day 1 of free agency, Mavs fans have been trying to get the team to show interest in Cleveland Cavaliers guard Collin Sexton. Sexton is a restricted free agent and has generated little interest on the market, causing the Cavaliers to low-ball him on an offer to return to the team.

With the extension rumors heating up, a Mavs fan decided to DM Mark Cuban on Twitter and told the Mavericks owner to make a push for Sexton. Cuban let the fan know that the Mavs are not in the race for Sexton with how the CBA rules are set up, with the Mavs being well over the salary cap despite not extending Brunson.

Cuban is extremely active on Twitter and always checks up on what Mavs fans have been saying about him or the team. This was reflected in his actions after he started liking tweets with fans, sending hate tweets his way after the Mavs failed to sign Goran Dragic.

Sexton is in a tough situation now and needs to find a suitable team to ply his future in. The Mavericks would be a great option for him, as he can be a proficient off-ball scorer as well as a ball-handler in non-Luka minutes. The Mavs have just Luka and Spencer Dinwiddie as ball-handlers this season, so it’ll be interesting to see how the team lines up on the court.

Telling a fan to read up on the CBA may be a little rude by Cuban. Still, it probably shows his own frustrations on the Mavs inflexibility to make major moves around Doncic and get this team built as a genuine championship contender.
