After news of Ime Udoka’s season-long suspension from team President Brad Stevens, countless fans and experts in the NBA community stood up for Udoka and have tried to argue that he doesn’t deserve to miss time for a consensual act.
While Ime’s actions might not seem worthy of such a harsh ruling from the team, there may be more to this whole situation than it seems.
On Instagram Live this week, the former NBA player turned analyst got real on Udoka’s scandal and hinted that his innocence might not be as strong as he wants us to believe.
“I spoke on Ime Udoka’s defense and after finding out the facts I erased what I posted because this situation in Boston is deep, messy and 100 times uglier than any of us thought. Some things happened I can’t condone. It’s not my place to tell you what happened.”

For the Celtics, this is obviously not where they hoped to be in the aftermath of their Finals run in June. Instead of focusing on the season ahead and building on the progress they made last campaign, they are faced with the task of finding a new coach to lead them as they sort out the details of a sexual scandal within their organization.
Ima Udoka’s Actions Have Prompted Reactions From Multiple Celtics Personnel
Basically, Udoka’s relationship with a fellow Celtics staffer put the entire team in a compromising position — and it’s the reason why Brad Steves ultimately decided to suspend him for so long. In a chat with the media this week, he issued the following statement in response to the situation:
“We have a lot of talented women in our organization, and I thought yesterday was really hard on them,” Stevens said, via NBA Sports Boston. “Nobody can control Twitter speculation and rampant bullshit, but I do think that we as an organization have a responsibility to make sure we’re there to support them now because a lot of people were dragged unfairly into that. That was really unfair in my opinion and I don’t know how we control Twitter,” Stevens added. “Obviously, there’s only so much we can say. But our job is to support and our job is to be there as everybody goes through the hard time. And everybody digests this stuff differently, but yesterday was unfair to them.”
It remains to be seen what kinds of details have been left out of the reports so far, but if Matt Barnes is to be believed, it won’t bode well for Udoka, who finds himself walking on eggshells.
All-in-all, it’s a truly unfortunate situation for all involved, and it may not be over yet. As the story progresses and more information comes to light, the future of Udoka and his role within the Celtics organization could take a drastic turn.
