Kyrie Irving just made his debut for the Dallas Mavericks after being traded from the Brooklyn Nets in a sea of controversy. Despite concerns around Irving’s fit in Dallas, his debut has sent an emphatic statement.

Kyrie dropped 24 points with 5 rebounds and 6 assists in a game where he orchestrated the offense. The team shared the ball and caught the Los Angeles Clippers off-guard, who ended up losing the game 110-104. This is the Mavericks’ second win this season without Luka Doncic on the court.

Fans were extremely happy to see Irving have the impact that he did, with many salivating at the thought of him and Doncic closing out games together.

All 5 starters on the Mavericks scored double-digit points, something we haven’t seen before this season. Concerns around Luka’s play style are valid, but the entire team seems to be playing with a lot more energy in their last 2 games since the Irving trade was announced.

Are There More Trades Happening In Dallas?

After the Mavs traded for Kyrie, some other flaws in the roster become apparent. Defense is a key area to address, even though the team had a great defensive night today. They need some genuine stoppers on the team for the playoffs after losing Dorian Finney-Smith to the Nets.

The Mavericks have floated around Christian Wood and Tim Hardaway Jr. on the market but no real players have been linked just yet. The Clippers are interested in Wood, though his passive performance tonight against them may make them reconsider trading for him coming off a thumb injury.

Hopefully, the Mavericks can figure out what they need to add to ensure that they can compete with Denver and now, the Lakers, through their depth.
