Michael Jordan Once Missed An Open Dunk In Madison Square Garden: “Knicks Fans Cheered Like They Won The Finals”

Michael Jordan is inarguably one of the greatest players to ever touch a basketball, and he proved that over the course of his career. He has won championships in college, he has won championships in the NBA, he has multiple MVPs, scoring titles, Finals MVPs, and countless other honors to his name.

When a player is that good, they leave behind a trail of scorched rival fans that are sick of seeing them dominate the league. The same happened with Jordan, being loathed by fans in Detroit, New York, Boston, and other Eastern Conference powerhouses during his era of domination.

MJ’s success became so ingrained in the league’s fabric that watching him fail at something became a remarkable sight. That was the case for New York Knicks, who were facing MJ in the Eastern Conference semi-finals in the 1992 Playoffs. Game 3 of the series was in New York, where MJ ended up missing a wide-open dunk in Madison Square Garden, eliciting rocking cheers from the Knicks fanbase.

A clip of the same went viral recently, and fans are reacting to the Knicks fans giving one of the loudest roars heard after MJ missed a dunk. Despite this ‘highlight’ for New York, the Knicks lost the game 94-86 and gave the Bulls a 2-1 lead.

The Knicks would go on to lose the series in 7 games as the Bulls went on to win their second consecutive championship.

Jordan has frustrated so many fanbases that watching him fail was a spectacle. That dunk was one of the easiest of Jordan’s career. Even GOATs falter as MJ made a mistake. The Knicks fanbase is extremely passionate, so their reaction was loud because of how invested they are in the game.

Passionate fans are good for the NBA, even though rivals may make fun of what they cheer for. New York fans are as diehard as they come, and the culture hasn’t changed, just ask Trae Young.
