Michael Jordan‘s name alone carries incredible value. Any product that carries with it an endorsement from one of the greatest players of all time almost immediately multiplies in its value. So many items from Jordan’s past have garnered exorbitant prices, including one that actually had its own value. 

In 2019, a cheque that Michael Jordan had written before he became an NBA superstar went up for auction. The cheque was for $5, which Jordan had written after losing a game of pool while he was at UNC. As the story goes, Michael Jordan was playing pool at the UNC campus.

As Jordan is known to do, he started placing bets on the games. After defeating one person quite a few times, his friend decided to stick up for him by playing against Jordan. Jordan began suffering losses and decided to walk away. 

The person thought that Michael Jordan would end up becoming a big name in the NBA, so made sure to ask him to write him a cheque for $25, which MJ did by signing as Mike Jordan. The cheque would eventually be auctioned off for $12,000, more than 2,000 times the original amount of the cheque.

Michael Jordan is so synonymous with Nike that not many people can imagine the brand without him. But when Jordan first met with Nike, he was not impressed with their presentation, famously having a poker face during their entire presentation. But Jordan would sign with Nike, and that would be a great decision.

Michael Jordan, as soon as he entered the NBA, turned himself into a household name through his incredible play. Jordan’s Nike shoes became the most popular shoes in the NBA. Long after Jordan’s NBA career came to an end, his shoes are still some of the most popular and valuable in the world today.

Most recently, Jordan took part in the rollout of rapper Travis Scott’s Utopia album. The two have a history together, with Jordan brand putting out a collaboration shoe together, and the resale value of those shoes is incredibly high. It’s safe to say that Jordan’s name value is incredibly high.
