The FIBA World Cup will start in September, and the United States is fielding a very competitive roster full of young stars. They are clearly a talented group that has a real chance of winning the entire tournament.

Brooklyn Nets forward Mikal Bridges was one of the players who committed to playing in the FIBA tournament. When asked recently about which of his teammates he’s most excited to play with, he revealed that Brandon Ingram and Anthony Edwards are the two that he’s most excited to team up with. (40:50)

“Probably, Ant and BI… Guarding them… They make it tough for me to guard them… how competitive they are, I know the motor they have.”

There is no doubt that Brandon Ingram and Anthony Edwards will challenge Mikal Bridges, particularly on the defensive end. Generally, a lot of players come back better after competing against the very best players in the league in practices, and going against Ingram and Edwards will definitely help Bridges.

The Brooklyn Nets Plan To Build Their Team Around Mikal Bridges

There is no doubt that going against other stars will be important for Mikal Bridges’ development. He has shown that he can be a solid No. 1 option during his time with the Brooklyn Nets, and the team is reportedly going to build around him. He was notably the main return in the team’s trade for Kevin Durant.

“Mikal Bridges is a guy they’re going to build around… The kind of offers the Nets have gotten for him speaks to how valuable he is, a player, I think for Brooklyn, they keep in place for the next big star that’s available in a trade.”

The Brooklyn Nets could definitely be a formidable force if they added another star-level player to their current core. They re-signed forward Cameron Johnson this summer to a four-year, $108 million deal. Their priority is clearly going young and trying to be a consistent playoff team as of right now, and Mikal Bridges is the perfect player to lead them because of his two-way ability. Hopefully, we see Bridges lead the team to the playoffs, and we’ll see what ends up happening in the future.
