If the Minnesota Timberwolves are to make it to the 2024 NBA Finals, they’re going to have to do something that no team has ever done, overturn a 3-0 deficit in a series. The Timberwolves suffered a 116-107 loss to the Dallas Mavericks on Sunday to find themselves in that hole but Naz Reid believes they can turn it around.

“I think we’ll be alright, though,” Reid said. ” Still, like I said, it’s first to four so I don’t really think we’re worried. I mean, we’ve been in a situation before and I think if anybody can win four straight or something in that scenario, I think it’s us.”

(starts at 0:20 mark):

I admire the confidence and the Timberwolves do have to keep believing that they can indeed pull this off. As for how much of a chance I give them of completing the comeback, it’s zero. There is a reason why no team has ever accomplished that (0-154).

We did see the Boston Celtics storm back to tie the series after going down 3-0 against the Miami Heat in the Eastern Conference Finals last year. In that Game 7 which was held in Boston, though, the Celtics got blown out. It just takes too much of a toll on a team to get out of that 3-0 hole they dug themselves in

I think the Timberwolves could potentially take this series six games, but that’s it. They had to win at least one of these first three to stand a chance but failed to do so. The Mavericks have just executed better than them in the big moments and it also doesn’t help that their stars have not played up to expectations.

Reid can’t be accused of that, though. The 2024 Sixth Man of the Year has averaged 17.3 points, 3.3 rebounds, 1.3 assists, 1.0 steals, and 0.7 blocks per game in this series. The 24-year-old is the Timberwolves’ second-leading scorer and while that’s impressive on his part, it speaks to just how much the likes of Karl-Anthony Towns have struggled.

Draymond Green: Chris Finch Can’t Worry About KAT Or Gobert’s Feelings, Wolves Need Naz Reid And Kyle Anderson

Draymond Green hasn’t been all that happy with what he has seen from the Timberwolves in this series and he believes that head coach Chris Finch needs to make some big adjustments.

“At some point, Chris Finch gotta make an adjustment,” Green said on Inside the NBA. “You keep rolling the same guys out there with the same game plan each game and you’ve fallen behind 3-0. So, at what point are you going to make an adjustment, not worry about feelings?

“We can’t worry about Karl-Anthony Towns’ feelings, or Rudy Gobert’s feelings,” Green continued. “They need Naz Reid out there, they need Kyle Anderson out there. You gotta figure that out and he has not done a great job and he’s blaming his guys and that’s not good.”

Reid and Kyle Anderson are certainly quicker than Rudy Gobert and Towns, but even they’re not going to have a great deal of success against the likes of Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving on switches. I suppose it wouldn’t hurt to give those two more minutes, but Finch has shown a lot of loyalty to the big names, so I don’t think it will happen.
