NBA Executive Says It Will Be Tough For Clippers To Trade Patrick Beverley

Just months removed from their abysmal performance in the 2020 playoffs, the Los Angeles Clippers are sparing to expense to ensure things end a little sweeter this season.

They’ve already taken a number of steps they feel will help them improve, including signing shot-blocking big man, Serge Ibaka.

In the next few days and weeks, it is expected that the Clips may continue to trade some of their own players with the hopes of assembling the best possible roster. Unfortunately, they might be stuck with their defensive-minded point guard, Patrick Beverley.

Yet each executive said Patrick Beverley would prove most difficult to get value from in any potential trade because of inconsistent health and a contract that will pay him $27 million over the next two seasons. That contract, one executive said, was a “negative” that could require the Clippers to attach draft picks in any deal.

Bev is one of the longest-tenured players on the roster. Since 2017, he has worked as a defensive pest and tone-setter for the Clippers. Alongside Paul George and Kawhi Leonard, LA was viewed as among the best defensive teams in basketball.

Of course, the 6-1 guard is limited as to what he can do offensively, and those limitations did not help when his team collapsed in the Western Conference Semi-Finals.

Consider his game, age, and contract, it’s understandable that he won’t be an easy one to move. The Clippers may have no choice but to embrace the many things he brings to the table.
