The catastrophe of the 2019-22 Brooklyn Nets will not be forgotten easily in the NBA. What was supposed to be the perfect modern superteam with a great mix of young and old talent has become a flaming mess with the team looking unrecognizable after multiple failed short-term moves that have set the franchise back.

The first mistake was the James Harden trade, where Brooklyn basically gave out all the young stars they had on their roster to various teams across the league. A year after the Nets traded for Harden, he forced his way out to Philadelphia for the disgruntled Ben Simmons, who is on the Nets squad but doesn’t play basketball due to injury.

It looks like Simmons won’t ever get a chance to play with Durant and Irving, as both expect to be moved on before the season will start and Simmons will be healthy enough to play. With Simmons being left alone in Brooklyn with no trade value, NBA fan and podcaster Josiah Johnson had some fun by playing a scene from a movie and saying that is how Simmons will react when he meets Durant and Irving next.

Simmons is either in a perfect situation or the worst possible situation, depending on how you look at it. He won’t be competing for a title as he would have with KD and Kyrie, which is a bad thing. However, this may be good for his confidence as he can build it back up on a Nets team where he has to be the focus.

Kyrie and KD are established veterans, whereas Simmons hasn’t played in a year and is considered by many to be a bust compared to the lofty comparisons he had received to LeBron James. This is a great opportunity for him to start from scratch and build himself up rather than fail in a high-leverage moment again.
