After the Dallas Mavericks’ win over the Milwaukee Bucks on Saturday night, some fans could not help but notice Luka looked a little different out on the court. Not in his game but in his appearance, specifically his weight.

Why Luka so fat lmao pic.twitter.com/Cb9HEw72I6

The not-so-flattering image of Doncic was circulated by sympathetic Mavs fans, riffing on everyone’s lack of exercise while staying at home during the quarantine. A lot of posts included praise for Luka’s playing ability despite the supposed weight gain.

he isn’t chunky luka or fat luka he is perfect luka ok?

The 230-pound one-time All-Star has had his fitness come into question just recently in June of this year. A mistranslated quote from his trainer, Jure Drasklar, attributed him claiming that “he [Doncic] is not in the best shape, which is normal.” Drakslar pointed out the mistranslation and Doncic fired back in the comments of the post. Even the official Mavericks Twitter account responded with a picture of Luka lifting weights.

However, the recent posts about his weight led Dallas News reporter Brad Townsend to ask Doncic what he thought of the comments calling him chunky.

Full Doncic quote: “I mean, people on Twitter say every stuff “But, it’s true I’m not in my best shape. I will get there for sure. But, you know, I’ve never been a muscular guy, so what can I say?”

"Fat Luka, rat luka, phat luka: Mavs in 4"

— Kirk Henderson (@KirkSeriousFace) December 15, 2020

While we cannot all play basketball like Luka, it’s empowering to see someone, who doesn’t look muscular and chiseled, dominate out on the floor. Regardless of his weight, it’ll be a fun season to watch Doncic continue playing at an MVP candidate level.
