The Phoenix Suns have proven themselves as one of the most consistent teams in the NBA over the last few seasons. After 2 seasons among the top contenders in the West, the Suns were faltering this season with Devin Booker out with an injury and Chris Paul’s production regressing.

To capitalize on their championship window, the Suns added Kevin Durant. Booker and Paul weren’t named All-Stars this season after being on the team last year, which led Booker to make a comment about how KD is the only All-Star talent on the Suns.

“Well, we only had one All-Star this year. That’s KD… I don’t do titles and stuff, that’s for you guys and everybody else. I know we have really talented people but I think we have to finish what we’re trying to do. That’s my main focus.”

Fans mocked Booker for this comment.

A fan said, “even if he’s kinda trolling he’s still right lol.”

A Suns fan agreed with Booker despite the larger criticisms, “Perfect answer and absolutely nuts that he even had to state that. All-Star game is a farce.”

Another Suns fan wanted to reiterate that the team is, in fact, a superteam, “It is a super team IMO because we got here through unconventional methods (a superstar requesting a trade and pinpointing us as where he wants to go gives us a HUGE advantage) but it’s not as ridiculous as LBJ’s free agency Super teams MIA and CLE.”

One fan thought it was just narrative-setting by the media deliberately misquoting Booker, ““This year” — y’all love misquoting to make a narrative.”

Another fan said, “Lol he’s scared.”

A 76ers fan flamed the comment, “That is one of the worst things he could have said lol.”

An Arizona resident disagreed with Booker, “They got 3 Hall of Famers and two top 15 players”

Durant was named a 2023 NBA All-Star, though he didn’t play due to injury. Booker has made most of his All-Star teams as a replacement instead of being outwardly voted in. His comment won’t fool anybody.

He is an All-NBA caliber player and has shown it in the 4 games he’s played since returning, averaging 22.8 points in just 29.6 minutes per game.

A Title On The Horizon For Phoenix?

When it comes to top-heavy teams, Phoenix is the definition of it. They have two MVP-caliber players in Booker and Durant along with the masterful point guard play of future Hall of Famer Chris Paul. Deandre Ayton is a former No. 1 pick that has shown tremendous upside.

Booker will be expected to play a leading role along with Durant, who will be mentoring him. For years he struggled in Phoenix as its lone star but now he has 2 teammates who have defined the modern era along with a young center that could ascend to being one of the elite bigs in the game. It’s championship or bust for every season that this core is together and Booker will not want to waste this opportunity.
