Some players’ names are synonymous with the franchises that they give a majority of their careers. Dirk Nowitzki with the Dallas Mavericks, Tim Duncan with the San Antonio Spurs, and Kobe Bryant with the Los Angeles Lakers are all excellent examples of superstars who stayed and won with the teams that drafted them. However, things don’t always work out magically, sometimes legends have to leave the teams where they’ve spent their careers in their later years.
The best example of this is probably Dwyane Wade. Wade is the Heat’s talisman, the franchise GOAT, the man who played a huge part in bringing 3 championships to the city. Many expected Wade would play with Miami till he retired, but that’s not quite how it worked out. After fielding what he considered to be ‘unacceptable’ contract offers from the Heat, Wade opted to sign with the Chicago Bulls in 2016.
The move to the Bulls didn’t quite work, and Wade was bought out in 2017. This saw him reunite with LeBron James in Cleveland, which was also a move that failed quite spectacularly. Ultimately, Wade was to return to finish his career with the Heat, but his stint left a bad taste in the mouths of Cavs fans, and it’s recently come up hilariously.
NBA Fans Troll Dwyane Wade For His Cleveland Stint Following Dean Wade’s Contract Extension
Dwyane Wade was known as DWade affectionately for a lot of his career. So it’s really hard for Cavs man Dean Wade to make the name his own. But he’s not doing too poorly for himself either, Wade just signed a 3-year extension with the Cavaliers. And on Reddit, fans took the opportunity to take shots at the original DWade over his Cleveland stint following news of the new contract for Dean. This is even funnier when one realizes that Wade himself makes jokes along these lines.
“The best DWade in Cleveland’s history.”
“The better DWade.”
“Most valuable DWade to sign for the Cavaliers ever.”
“He’s here to wash away the bad legacy of DWades in Cleveland.”
“Solid move, he’s earned that bag. Can’t be worse than Dwyane was anyway.”
“Does it make sense for the Cavs to give the bag to another DWade?”
“Best DWade in Cleveland Cavaliers history.”
“I’m convinced 15 percent of his worth is his name sounding way too close to Dwayne Wade.”
“This is the real DWade.”
“DWade is gonna win us a championship.”
“The best DWade.”
Fans of the game haven’t forgotten Dwyane Wade’s disappointment in Cleveland. He averaged just 11 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 3.4 assists per game during his spell with the team. While Dean Wade will likely never individually approach the levels Dwyane did, he has a very good chance of going down as the more popular DWade in Cavaliers’ history.
