Jaylen Brown was supposed to be one of the first announced off-season extensions, but that has not materialized. He has grown into a superstar with the Boston Celtics, but they have yet to agree with him about a contract extension.

Adrian Wojnarowski recently reported that Brown might get an extension worth $304 million, making him the first NBA player to break the $300 million mark for a contract if it happens and giving him the largest contract in the league’s history. Fans had a lot to say about it, to say the least.

Jaylen Brown averaged 26.6 points per game for the Celtics last season and is one of the league’s best defenders. He has blossomed into an elite player but his game still has some weaknesses. One fan pointed out an issue with his dribbling.

While Jaylen Brown deserves to get a supermax and has shown the ability to lead an NBA team, the Celtics’ main star is undoubtedly Jayson Tatum. And fans wondered how much he will not get paid considering that Brown is worth $300 million.

Brown has been a big piece in helping the Celtics reach deep in the playoffs consistently. And while the city of Boston loves him, one fan pointed out that he hasn’t played well enough to warrant this much money.

The supermax is a percentage of the salary cap. As the NBA grows bigger, so will the deals. And as one fan pointed out, Brown will not be the man with the largest NBA contract for too long.

The Agreement Between The Boston Celtics And Jaylen Brown Still Has To Go Through

The Boston Celtics have been credited with an interest in Damian Lillard, and that might throw a bit of a spanner into the works. While they will almost definitely want to keep Brown, he could be a piece in a potential trade for Lillard. The Celtics have shown they aren’t making decisions based on sentimentality considering that they traded Marcus Smart already.

The best thing for the team would be to keep Tatum and Brown together for their careers. But having two Supermax players might make building the team tough moving forward. Whatever happens, Brown is going to sign the supermax, meaning he will have the largest contract in the league’s history for a while.
