With LeBron James and Russell Westbrook, the Los Angeles Lakers have the foundation of a competitive NBA team.
But if the Purple and Gold want to unlock their ultimate potential this season, they will need the best from Anthony Davis, who approaching this campaign with fresh kegs and fresh eyes.
Clearly, Davis has all the talent he needs to pour in a big performance, but he’ll have to stay healthy for it to count.
Anthony Davis Reveals The Wrist Injury He Suffered Last Season
Health was Davis’ biggest hindrance last time, and he confirmed that this week when he admitted to playing through a secret wrist injury.
AD on his shooting: “A lot of people don’t know this but since January I was battling a wrist injury … it was tough for me to shoot how I wanted to shoot.” Said it feels “great” now.
Of course, Davis has gone on record before to say injuries have been the biggest thing holding the Lakers back.
According to Davis, all the Lakers need is health on their side to be competitive again, and he hopes that this year will finally give him the break he’s been waiting for.
“Can’t take the injuries out,” said Davis on expectations for the season ahead. “But a championship. When we first put the team together, first day of training camp when everyone was healthy… Our goal was to win a championship. I felt like we had the pieces. But injuries got in the way of that. And that was the difference in our season. I think we lost games where all of us was on the floor, me Bron, Russ, I think we’re three great players and we would have figured it out. If we logged more minutes together but we weren’t able to do that. Which makes it tough to be able to compete for a championship when your three best players haven’t logged enough minutes together. Unfortunate, but I guess we recap and see what the rest of the season looks like, and over the summer, see what next season looks like.”
It will not be an easy road for AD and the Lakers. After so much turmoil and chaos last season. It’s going to take a lot of hard work and patience to start seeing progress on the court.
But if the chips fall in the right places, it could set up the Purple and Gold for a major playoff run.
