The infamous ‘Banana Boat Picture’ has become a part of modern NBA legend. In 2015, a picture of Chris Paul, LeBron James, and Dwyane Wade was taken, with all of them riding a banana boat together during a vacation. The picture went viral as people speculated about the possibility of the three stars teaming up together, and that got even louder when it was revealed that Carmelo Anthony was with them.

There is some acknowledgment of the allegations that they would team up, Chris Paul joked about it a few years after the picture was taken. It was criticized by some members of the media as well, with the situation deemed to be an example of how soft the NBA has become in modern times. Perhaps none of the stars expected it to reach those levels of notoriety, and Carmelo Anthony shed some light on how it happened.

Carmelo Anthony Opened Up On The Banana Boat Picture

The NBA’s superstars haven’t always been very pally with one another, the competition was a lot more intense back in the day. The modern era of player power has led to some of the rivalries softening, with players in the league interacting with one another a lot more. Draymond Green and LeBron James are good recent examples, but Anthony has opened up on how exactly that picture was taken and why he wasn’t in it.

“I have no idea, bro. I don’t even know. I wasn’t on that f**king banana boat man, you know what I’m saying? We went on the vacation man, a little brotherhood vacation. And I came late to the vacation. So as I’m on a tender going to yacht, I see them on the banana boat. So I was looking at them like, ‘What the f**k are they doing?’ I’d never get on no sh*t like that. Then I wake up and next day there’s a picture, ‘The Banana Boat Crew.’ I wasn’t even on that though, I went past that sh*t.”

It seems that while he is talking about it in a joking manner, Carmelo Anthony was very much not involved with the idea of the banana boat. While he would eventually play with LeBron James on the Lakers, none of the speculations about those stars teaming up amounted to much except a hilarious and viral photo.
