Devin Booker Is Frustrated With Constant Comparisons To Kobe Bryant: "I'm Inspired By Kobe Bryant And Mamba Mentality But I Am Not Kobe Bryant."

Great as he is with a basketball in his hands, Devin Booker still earns plenty of criticism for other factors that don't favor his image. The Phoenix Suns star is one of the most exciting young players in the league, already demonstrating he's capable of leading his team to play for the championship. Still, Book sometimes finds himself in not-so-flattering situations.

Earlier this week, he starred in a controversial moment when the Toronto Raptors mascot tried to get under Booker's skin as he attempted a free throw at Scotiabank Arena.

DBook didn't appreciate that and complained to the referees, earning a lot of criticism from fans. Following the game, the community went off on Booker, calling him 'soft' for allowing something so little to mess up his mind. As usual, comparisons with his mentor Kobe Bryant didn't take long to arrive, but the player is tired of that.

After the Suns win over the Indiana Pacers last night, the shooting guard reflected on this situation, stating that he's not Kobe Bryant and people should stop bringing the Mamba's name whenever something happens with him.

“The only problem I have is people still comparing me to Kobe Bryant. I told them in the Playoffs, stop bringing up Mamba Mentality. I’m inspired by Kobe Bryant and Mamba Mentality, but I am not Kobe Bryant. People are yelling Mamba mentality from their mama’s house. I’ll leave you with that.”

The Indiana Pacers brought a dinosaur to troll Booker on Friday night, but that didn't work. The Suns got the 112-94 win over their struggling rivals, with Booker dropping 35 points.

No doubt he's a terrific player, but certain things about his personality earned him a lot of criticism. A couple of years ago, he complained after getting double teamed in a pickup game, a situation he lived during the 2021 NBA Finals and hurt the Suns in crunch time during that series. Book is certainly inspired by Kobe, but don't expect Bryant in every player that looked up to him.
