Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving look like they are both on their way out from the Brooklyn Nets. Both players have frequently been linked with exits from the franchise, with Kevin Durant making a public trade request.
There have been reports that Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant could potentially both be acquired by the Los Angeles Lakers. Brian Windhorst previously claimed that the Lakers can “make a package to get the both of them”.
“It has been floated to me by executives that if they were to be kept together, the Lakers can make a package to get the both of them. But we both don’t know what KD and Kyrie are together. After seeing what happened when they’re together, almost no team with any options would do it. But the Lakers don’t have options. So that’s the only place I heard where that is possible.”
Gilbert Arenas has recently claimed that the Lakers are the only team that can make a trade for Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving. He claimed it is a “fair trade on both sides”, but added that the Lakers may have to throw in “someone young” to potentially make the deal work.
Lakers are the only team that’s suited to make a deal work. Because it’s less paperwork. I can straight up trade Kyrie for Russ, Kevin Durant for Anthony Davis. It’s a fair trade on both sides. You can possibly give Nets someone young… But other than that you can do straight up two stars for two stars.
Both teams feel like, “We got something out of it”.
It would be insane to see Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant team up with LeBron James. The Los Angeles Lakers would instantly become a top-tier contender, and they would be must-watch basketball.
It remains to be seen if the Los Angeles Lakers and the Brooklyn Nets enact a deal with this framework. Perhaps we will see it happen, and there are definitely benefits for both teams when it comes to this specific trade scenario.
