The Memphis Grizzlies have been one of the surprise stories of the season. Projected to fall somewhere near the bottom of the standings, they somehow managed to be in the Western Conference playoff race all season long.
And though Portland would go on to take their spot, the Grizzlies went down with honor and much optimism about their future.
No doubt, the biggest reason for their success has to be former Murray State guard Ja Morant, who has officially been crowned the NBA’s Rookie of the Year.

For anybody who’s been following, this isn’t exactly shocking news. Morant has been a consistent force all year long, having posted an average of 17.8 points, 7.3 assists, and 3.9 rebounds per game on 47% shooting.
His biggest competition in the ROTY race was Zion Williamson, Eric Paschall, and Michael Porter Jr. But considering his play on both ends of the floor, it’s clear why Ja has been a clear favorite to win from the beginning.
In the end, however, it’s all about what Morant and the Grizzlies can do going forward. of they continue to build around their star point guard, good things may be in store.
They’ve certainly got off to a great start so far…
