Ja Morant has had a breakout season with the Memphis Grizzlies this year and has led them all the way to the No. 2 seed in the Western Conference. He is well-known for his athletic ability, finishing at the rim, and playmaking. Currently, Ja Morant is putting up 27.8 PPG, 5.8 RPG, and 6.6 APG.
The Memphis Grizzlies were the No. 3 seed in the Western Conference prior to the end of the Golden State Warriors – Los Angeles Lakers game today. As the Golden State Warriors lost, the Memphis Grizzlies have become the No. 2 seed in the West.
Kendrick Perkins has recently claimed that the Memphis Grizzlies’ positioning in the standing means Ja Morant is “the front runner” for the 2021-22 MVP award. While most people would disagree, Ja Morant’s stats suggest that he could have a fringe case for the award.
Before I fire my Tweet off about 🐐 James! The Memphis Grizzlies now have the second Best record in the NBA and that means that Ja Morant has to be the front runner for MVP! You can argue with ya mama. Carry on…

There are definitely other deserving candidates for the MVP award, such as Nikola Jokic and Joel Embiid. Those two players are widely considered as the top-2 candidates for the MVP this season, and it’s hard to see anyone toppling them. However, that doesn’t mean that Ja Morant isn’t playing at a high level, and he’ll likely become an All-NBA team member this season.
The Memphis Grizzlies may not have a lot of star power, but they are a gritty defensive team with ample athleticism. They are definitely in a similar tier to the Phoenix Suns and the Golden State Warriors, and perhaps we’ll end up seeing them come out of the Western Conference and make the Finals.
