Kevin Durant is tired of all the noise and criticism for his lack of success after he left the Golden State Warriors. The 2x NBA champion left a terrific situation at the Bay to go sign with the Brooklyn Nets in 2019, making a decision that hasn’t paid off for him.

KD went to three straight NBA Finals with the Dubs and won his only two championships with them. However, things drastically changed after he joined forces with Kyrie Irving in Brooklyn three years ago, as the Nets have been able to reach only the second round of the playoffs in 2021.

After the Warriors won the 2022 NBA championship, more people criticized Durant for leaving the Dubs to go struggle in Brooklyn. He revealed how he felt after that, as he knew how people would react to the Dubs’ success without him.

Kevin Durant Shuts Down People Who Says He Needs To Win Alone

Talking with Michael Lee of the Washington Post, KD reveals that he has never used other people to be successful, and he doesn’t plan to do it for the rest of his career. Moreover, he responded to those who say he needs to win on his own, giving a blunt response to all that criticism.

The Warriors’ fourth championship subjected Durant to another debate he finds annoying: that he needs to win on his own.

“I’ve never done anything I want to do on this Earth of significance by myself,” Durant says. “Even if I win on this team, it’s going to be a contribution from everybody. I never made winning about me, even when I was at Golden State. I could’ve easily stepped out and said, ‘Yeah, this is my s—.’ I never did that. I didn’t even come here to prove to people that I could win on my own.

“I can’t put all the pressure on myself,” he says. “I did that before. You want it all, you want to experience it all, but it wasn’t good for my sanity trying to put everything on me.”

These comments have followed KD for a while now, and it seems like it won’t stop until the end of his career, or until he actually wins something else on Brooklyn or any other team. As for now, he’s good in Brooklyn and ready to compete after the team starred in a couple of controversies to start the season.

Durant is happy for his former teammates, but he’s focused on winning in Brooklyn. If he does it, it’ll be interesting to see what doubters will have to say about it.
