After the incredible summer of 2019, Kevin Durant has been mentioned alongside the Golden State Warriors all the time. Following a successful stint with the Dubs, making it to three straight NBA Finals and winning two titles in the process, KD decided to take a different route and joined the Brooklyn Nets with Kyrie Irving.

Ever since that moment, everything he does, good or bad, will draw comparisons to his time in the Bay, and especially when things don’t go right, everybody blasts the 2x NBA champion.

It happened last season after the Dubs beat the Boston Celtics in the Finals 4-2, getting their fourth championship in eight years. As soon as this happened, many people started trolling KD for leaving an incredible situation to deal with drama at Barclays Center. Even Charles Barkley trolled him over that, but KD has always replied to Chuck and those who think he’s a bus rider.

Still, it must have been difficult to see his former team go back to the top of the league after two seasons of missing the playoffs. They turned things around and proved to the world that, at least last season, their dynasty wasn’t over. KD recently touched on this with Michael Lee of the Washington Post, saying that it was hard for him to watch the Warriors win, but not out of jealousy or envy.

He knew that people would come at him, telling him that he blew a big chance.

“I can’t lie: Watching the Finals, I knew so many people would turn their focus on me once they won. I was like, I hate that they won, because y’all not going to make it about them; it’s going to be all about me,” Durant says. “I think it’s just a childish way of looking at that experience. I feel like you can take it all in and appreciate what they did and not even talk about me. I was just sitting at home. But I get how it is.”

The noise couldn’t drown out the memories Durant made with his Warriors teammates. When Stephen Curry was named Finals MVP, he silenced the silly attempts to disparage all he had built with the Warriors. And when he crossed paths with Curry last summer, Durant says, he told his former MVP partner, “The way you played in that Finals is the way I enjoy seeing you play.”

“That’s my family over there,” he says. “I can be a Brooklyn Net and y’all can be the Golden State Warriors, and it’ll still be love. … When they succeed, I succeed, because I’m a part of that history forever.”

Durant has nothing but love for the Warriors, and he never hesitates to show that. He recently caught up with Stephen Curry after the Chef attended KD’s star-studded dinner in New York.

Even though many people said Durant didn’t enjoy his time in Golden State, he has shut down those claims over and over again, and no matter what people say about him, nobody can change history and take those two NBA titles and Finals MVP away from Durant.
