Kyrie Irving was the first star on the Brooklyn Nets’ roster to make noise about leaving this offseason. His contract extension saga was a weird one but ultimately ended with him taking the player option to stay with the franchise for another season. That looked a little dicey with the Kevin Durant situation too, but eventually, the Nets seemingly figured everything out, with KD and Kyrie both returning to play for the franchise next season.
When it did look like the enigmatic star point guard would leave, though, there was just one team he was repeatedly linked to. The Los Angeles Lakers were touted as the team Kyrie was mostly likely to end up on, with a reunion with LeBron James being discussed. The trade was supposed to involve Russell Westbrook going the other way, but it never quite materialized. Irving is staying with the Nets, but not everyone has forgotten about the links to the Lakers.
Kyrie Irving Reacted Wildly To A Question About A Move To Los Angeles
The Los Angeles Lakers are fully among the teams in the league that nearly every player wishes to play for. As such, they are linked with all the possible stars during every trading window. And even when players don’t end up moving to the Lakers, after all, there are conversations around whether they will do so eventually. And during a live stream that he was a part of, Kyrie was asked when he might move to Los Angeles, to which he had an intense reaction.

Streamer: “Can I break the ice? When you going to LA?”
Kyrie Irving: “Oh yo, yooo… What? Huh? Come on, yo.”
Irving was flustered by the question, and his reaction has made some fans think that it means joining the Lakers is still a part of his eventual plan. Irving is fully out of contract next season, which means that he will be free to join any team, and it could very well be the Lakers. On top of that, Russell Westbrook’s contract will also be up, and the Lakers could very well end up signing Irving to a deal.
For now, though, all of this remains pure speculation. Kyrie is in hot water over some of the conspiracies that he recently promoted on his social media. And the Brooklyn Nets are focused on giving it a real go with their current crop of stars. If Irving is to head to Los Angeles, the one thing that remains true is that it won’t happen anytime soon.
