The Brooklyn Nets faced off against the Los Angeles Lakers in their most recent matchup in the NBA. Considering the Lakers are struggling to find form right now, it was never expected to be a close matchup, and that’s what the result reflects after the final buzzer.

Behind a stellar performance by Kyrie Irving, the Nets registered an easy 121-104 victory over the Lakers. The defeat left Lakers fans in dismay, and their trust in head coach Darvin Ham is getting shaky.

Speaking of Kyrie Irving, he recorded 26 points, 7 rebounds, and 6 assists while playing 39 minutes against the Lakers. During the game, he was guarded by none other than the ever-so-energetic Patrick Beverley.

Kyrie Irving On Patrick Beverley’s Relentless Trash-Talking

There are many ways a player can try to defend superstars in the league. Kyrie Irving is one of the best players in the NBA when it comes to dominating teams with his skills on the offensive end of the floor.

Irving did the same against the Lakers, but Patrick Beverley did everything in his power to stop Kai, albeit failing to do so. During the postgame conference, Irving was asked about Beverley’s antics to guard him throughout the game, and Irving had an interesting response to the question.

I wouldn’t use irritable or he’s irritating, some of the guys would probably use that. But for me, I think with Patrick I enjoy the competitive spirit that he brings out of me. I mean he brings it out of other people. If you can get by him, you can score on him, you can score on the majority of the people in the league, that’s just the respect I have for him. … I welcomed the challenge, but I just kept telling him like the objective of the game is to win.”

He added, “A few times I missed shots and he was like, ‘That’s off!!! I told you he was gonna miss!!!’ And I’m just looking at him like, the objective is to win Patrick. I’m not really gonna get into this but it makes the game a lot more fun I believe.”

As Kyrie mentioned, Pat Bev is someone who always makes the game interesting for not only the fans but for the players who face him as well. Talking trash is one of the biggest skills in his arsenal, and we have seen him use that throughout the course of his career.
