LeBron James has historically been a pass-first player, but there’s no doubt that he’s developed a fantastic scoring game throughout his career. As of right now, LeBron James is one of the most well-rounded players in the league and is currently averaging 29.0 PPG, 8.2 RPG, and 6.6 APG for the Los Angeles Lakers.

Though the Los Angeles Lakers season is going poorly, one of the positive things that could happen this season is LeBron James breaking the all-time scoring record, which is currently held by Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.

Recently, LeBron James was asked where the all-time scoring title would rank on his list of accomplishments. LeBron James gave an honest response, claiming that he “doesn’t know” where it would rank, as it was never his primary goal.

I don’t know… I have not set out to do that, it wasn’t like a goal of mine when I entered the league. Making the All-Star team, being the ROTY, being the First Team All-NBA, First Team All-Defense. Winning a championship… being the MVP of the league.

But the scoring record was never even thought of in my head because I’ve always been a pass-first guy.

It is crazy to think about the fact that LeBron James was never a pure scorer, and yet he still could end up breaking the all-time scoring record. It will definitely be a big-time occasion when it happens, and it will definitely improve his GOAT case, which is based on his longevity.

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Is Excited For LeBron James To Break His Record

Previously, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar claimed that he would be excited for LeBron James to break his scoring record. Abdul-Jabbar noted that the game “will always improve” when legendary records are broken and commended LeBron James for working “very hard to get this far”.

If LeBron breaks the record, and it looks like he has every reason to break it, I’ll be very happy for him. The game will always improve when records like that are broken. So LeBron should enjoy his achievement. He’s worked very hard to get this far… It’s about passing it on to the next guy in line.

Sometimes, we see certain players be bitter about their records being passed up. However, that is clearly not the case here, and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar is ready to pass the torch to the “next guy in line”.

There is no doubt that LeBron James has put in the effort to maintain his body and keep up his durability, and that effort will definitely pay off when he manages to break the scoring record. It will be amazing to see it happen, and it will likely happen before the season is over barring a serious injury.
