Rudy Gobert and Donovan Mitchell have been a solid duo over the last few seasons, making the Utah Jazz a competitive playoff-tier team. There’s no doubt that they have enjoyed a fair amount of regular-season success together.
Despite the fact that they have done well as a duo, there have been reports in the past that have suggested that not all is well between the two. A February report from Brian Windhorst even suggested that the duo were “at each other’s throats”.
“Gobert and Mitchell have been at each other’s… I don’t know if I can say at each other’s throats,” said Brian Windhorst.
“It’s back to being passively aggressively awkward,” interjected Tim MacMahon.
“It’s the most underplayed story in the league, I think,” continued Windhorst. “The Jazz are struggling a lot. This team had big expectations and they’re getting passed by frankly. They are not on the level they were a year ago. Donovan and Gobert, even though they’re both under long-term contract, are under each other’s skin. There’s all kind of subtweeting and passive aggressive stuff going on.”
Gobert recently praised the defensive improvements made by Devin Booker, which Mitchell is believed to have taken as criticism of him.
“If these guys played for the Knicks or Nets or even the Suns or something, Stephen A. would be talking about this on First Take,” said Windhorst. “Because it is two All-Star level players.”
Rudy Gobert has recently opened up on his relationship with Donovan Mitchell, claiming that “people are looking for anything” to try and divide him and Mitchell. He also added that the duo has a shared goal of trying to win a championship with the Utah Jazz.

People are looking for anything they can find to just try and divide us… we both have the same goal. It’s to win a championship here.
Hopefully, we do get to see Rudy Gobert and Donovan Mitchell win a championship together. They are both extremely talented players that can impact a game with their abilities and have clearly been a successful partnership.
The Utah Jazz haven’t been able to get past the 2nd round during Rudy Gobert’s tenure, but perhaps that will change this season. The Jazz have faltered as of late, but perhaps they will turn it up during the playoffs.
