Sabrina Ionescu has had an incredible 2024, starting the year off with a high-profile three-point shootout at the 2024 NBA All-Star Game against the greatest shooter in the history of basketball, Stephen Curry. She followed that up by winning the 2024 WNBA Championship with the New York Liberty.
With rumors of the NBA wanting Ionescu in another three-point contest at the 2025 NBA All-Star Game but this time against Curry and Klay Thompson, Sabrina revealed on the Big 10 Network that she would want Caitlin Clark to be her teammate if she were to face both Curry and Klay next year.
“If I had to choose, I am taking Caitlin Clark on my team.”

Ionescu is arguably one of the greatest shooters in basketball herself. She broke the record for the most 3-pointers made in the 3-point contest history, which led to her shootout with Curry at the 2024 All-Star Game. Curry scored 29 out of a possible 30 points while Ionescu scored 26 while shooting from NBA range. For context, the men’s three-point shootout was won by Damian Lillard with a score of 26 as well.
Ionescu vs. Curry was easily the biggest event at the All-Star Game this year, with it outperforming traditional events such as the Dunk Contest and even the regular three-point shootout. With Ionescu having a championship ring to her name now, the league would love for her and Curry to feature at the All-Star Game again.
Klay Thompson is no longer Curry’s teammate, but seeing the two join forces once more in a two-on-two shooting contest against Ionescu and Clark would be incredible to watch.
Clark is arguably the biggest name in women’s basketball right now, with her presence adding incredible star power to this event which already ranked as the most popular from the 2024 All-Star Game. When you add the storyline of Sab and Steph rematching, Clark featuring, and Klay reuniting with Curry for one event only, this contest might break the internet.
Ionescu helped the Liberty make it to the Finals and win the title against the Minnesota Lynx in five games. She averaged 18.2 points, 4.4 rebounds, 6.2 assists and 1.0 steals per game while shooting 39.4% from the field and 33.3% from three in 28 regular season games.
Clark had one of the greatest rookie seasons in WNBA history, putting up 19.2 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 8.4 assists on 41.7% from the field and 34.4% from three over the season and leading the Indiana Fever to the WNBA Playoffs as a rookie.
With her growing star power and the potential of her teaming up with Ionescu against arguably the two greatest shooters in NBA history, the 2025 All-Star Game would be must-see TV if this actually happens.
