There are many stories about Shaquille O’Neal being as hilarious as possible since he’s always messing with people, trying to make others laugh. This is a natural thing for Shaq, as he always has been like that, even if that gets him into trouble sometimes.

After a terrible experience during his youth, O’Neal decided to stop being a bully and become the funnyman at school, which is something that earned him much more admiration and a lot of friends. He hasn’t changed anything to this day, and even though he has the ego of a superstar, more often than not, he shows his humble side.

Still, these jokes have gotten him into trouble more than once, and there was a time when he messed up with royal guards in London and was detained until he worked his magic and got released.

Shaquille O’Neal Explained Why He Was Detained In London

Back in 2018, O’Neal, along with Victoria Beckham, joined The Late Late Show with James Corden, where they told stories about their personal lives and talked about their collab with Reebok. However, Shaq’s stories stole the show at that time, as he recalled how he found David Beckham’s wallet in Beverly Hills and also how he was detained in London.

After making a bet with one of his friends, Shaq got a royal guard to move, which is nearly impossible for most people, but O’Neal took things to the next level and suffered the consequences of that. Shaq started doing mimics in front of the guard, dancing around them, and then bumped the guard. That’s when he was surrounded by others, even with guns pointing at him (3:09).

“I want to say I got arrested, but I got detained,” Shaq said before explaining what happened to Corden. “My friend bet me $50,000 that I couldn’t get the guards move. I would go to them and I would go [shakes his head in front of Corden]. But the last time, I bumped them, and they came out of nowhere.”

He then explained that he used David Beckham’s name to get out of that situation, and it worked.

“I used your husband’s name to get out,” Shaq told Victoria. “David Beckham is your guy over here, I’m the black David Beckham of the States. So, tell Prince Charles that the black David Beckham, Shaquille O’Neal, is sorry for this incident… They came out with those guns, ‘get down!'”

Fortunately, the situation wasn’t aggravated, and Shaq was released and ready to get $50K from his friend. This is something that only can happen to him, and only he can get away with that. That’s what happens when you’re the black David Beckham, I guess.
