Vanessa Bryant Gives Heartbreaking Message About Kobe On Mamba Day

4 Min Read

This coronavirus pandemic may be the biggest tragedy of the year, but it hasn’t been the only one.

This January, the world lost Kobe Bryant in a terrible helicopter crash. Kobe and his daughter Gianna were two of nine victims who died that day. As an icon, role-model, and (most importantly) family man, his death broke the hearts of many around the world.

But nobody was grieved by his death more than his wife, Vanessa who lost both her husband and daughter that day. On the first “Mamba Day” (April 13th) since the accident, Bryant posted a very heartfelt and saddening post on Instagram about the unfairness of life.

“My husband worked his ass off for 20 years. Gave it his all. All he wanted was to spend time with our girls and me to make up for lost time. He wanted to be there for every single milestone and special moment in our girls lives. He only got to enjoy 3 years and 9 months of retirement. We had 2 more daughters, he won an Oscar, he opened Granity studios, he became a 5x best selling author and coached Gianna’s basketball team in that time. She worked hard and gave her all 7 days a week just like her daddy. I wish I could go back to that morning, every day. I wish they had a normal local game on 1/26. Life truly isn’t fair. This is just senseless.”

It’s really unfortunate that Kobe wasn’t able to spend more time with his family. After 20 seasons of playing, traveling, and practicing, he deserved to spend some extra time with the people that he loved.

In the short time he got to spend in retirement, he accomplished a lot. He won an Oscar, became an author, opened Granity Studios, and continued to be a shining example for people all around the world.

We’ll never get the chance to see or hear from Kobe again. All we can do now is pass along his legacy — that of perseverance and excellence beyond belief.
