There are times when fans of a certain franchise end up disliking a certain player, for one reason or another. Kyrie Irving is someone who has had to deal with that in Boston, with many fans disliking him due to his actions towards the franchise.
During the recent Nets-Celtics game, Kyrie Irving got “Kyrie Sucks” chants from the Boston crowd. Boston Celtics forward Jayson Tatum ended up trying to quiet the crowd down, and Kyrie Irving ended up shaking his head in response to the heckling from the fans.
Kyrie Irving used to play for the Boston Celtics, but there is no question that he and the team’s fans are on bad terms. Previously, Kyrie Irving has even called out certain Celtics fans previously for treating players as though they were “in a zoo”. That statement came after a Celtics fan threw a water bottle at him during a Celtics-Nets matchup last season.
Kyrie Irving calls tonight’s incident “underlying racism” and says that fans have been treating players like “we’re in a zoo.”
There is no doubt that the fan throwing the water bottle at Kyrie Irving was unacceptable. There’s no place for that in the game. However, Kyrie Irving has also done some actions towards the fanbase that some deemed unacceptable, as he stomped on the Celtics logo after a previous 39-point performance against his former team.
It seems as though there’s no end in sight to the beef between Kyrie Irving and Boston Celtics fans. This recent incident just shows that Boston Celtics haven’t forgotten about his time on the franchise and his actions afterward.
The Boston Celtics ended up getting the win today, and there’s no doubt that this was a good win for the team and a satisfying outcome for Boston fans. It remains to be seen how the matchups between the two teams go in the future.
