Zach LaVine has a message for his haters, and that comes on the back of some impressive performances that seem to suggest that he and the Chicago Bulls shouldn’t be written off just yet.
The shooting guard followed up his 41-point display against the Philadelphia 76ers with another strong showing against the Utah Jazz, notching up 36 points, 7 rebounds, and 2 assists to help the Bulls win 126-118.
December 2022 was all about LaVine’s future in Chicago. He was rumored to be in the middle of some locker room trouble, and reports of him keen on playing in LA for the Lakers did the rounds. The start of the season was all about the form that he was working back towards after knee surgery, making him a constant headline generator.
Now, he has a strong response to the critics who wrote him off. Speaking to the media in the aftermath of the win, the 27-year-old shed light on his climb after surgery. Per NBC Sports Chicago’s K.C. Johnson:
“It’s what happens when you come off surgery, man,” Zach LaVine said. “Everybody expects you to come back and be yourself or better. But without a lot of training and rehab, you’re going to have to go through those ups and downs. I take it on the chin. I knew I was going to get back to what I was supposed to do.”
LaVine’s performance against the Jazz helped Chicago prop up their third straight win. They started that streak by beating the in-form Brooklyn Nets and then vaulted over the Sixers before walking off with a win against Utah.
Zach LaVine Trade Rumors: The Lakers Are Reportedly Interested In Acquiring The All-Star
While LaVine may have shared his two cents on the trade rumors surrounding him, there is no doubt that he’s been on the radar of some of the teams, especially the Los Angeles Lakers.
The rumor mills churned heavily, with some even stating that LaVine wanted to play for the Lakers. On his part, the Slam Dunk champ was more focussed on the season rather than worrying about his future.
“At our best, we showed what we can be last year [at this time],’’ LaVine said. “We were the No. 1 team in the East. At our best, we’re one of the best teams in the league. That’s for them to decide. . . . I’m not worried about our roster.’’
He is one of the major names alongside Bradley Beal eligible to be traded after January 15, and only time will tell if LaVine stays in Chicago or finds himself a new home. Given the form he’s in, he’ll certainly not be short of offers.
