One of the most overhyped young players in recent years, Mikey Williams, is reportedly in trouble with justice after he was arrested in California.

According to reports, Williams has been booked on five counts of assault with a deadly weapon.

“San Diego Sheriff’s Department confirmed to CBS 8 that San Ysidro basketball star Michael Williams was arrested Thursday on five charges of assault with a deadly weapon.

“CBS 8 learned that a suspect named Michael Anthony Williams was booked into San Diego Central Jail around 3:30 p.m. on April 13.

“Williams was released on a bail of $50,000 just after midnight Friday morning.

“The 18-year-old suspect arrested was described as a black male, 6 foot 3 inches tall, 180 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes, according to booking records provided by San Diego Sheriff’s Department.”

This is terrible news for Williams, who is currently ranked 26th in the national rank for 2023. San Diego Police Department didn’t reveal more details about the crime or how they were alerted of the same.

Each of these charges carries a minimum sentence of six months in county jail.

After several years of making highlights in high school, where he amassed a big number of fans, Williams is now set to join Penny Hardaway and the University of Memphis. Now, this situation could change everything for him.

Mikey Williams Has Big Plans For His NBA Career

Perhaps until Thursday afternoon, Williams was set to make it to the big leagues and become a pro, as he had huge plans for his career in the NBA. The young player claimed he would’ve liked to be worth $1 billion before he was 30, a really big plan for any person in the world.

Now, the situation looks complicated. In a year where superstars like Ja Morant have been dealing with similar issues for their antics with guns, it’s sad to see somebody even younger get in this type of situation when they haven’t even made their college debut.

Williams’ first court appearance is set for April 20.
