NBA Rumors: DeMar DeRozan Taking A “Wide Open” Approach To Free Agency

2 Min Read

Spurs star DeMar DeRozan is nearing the end of his deal with the San Antonio Spurs. Once free agency starts, he is expected to be a major player on the market, with multiple teams expected to pursue his services.

According to The Athletic, the veteran guard is taking an open approach to free agency, which means his next location might come down to which team pays him the most money.

A source with knowledge of DeRozan’s outlook said he’ll be taking a “wide open” approach to free agency in terms of possible landing spots. But after these past three seasons in San Antonio, where he was asked to sacrifice on the scoring front and evolve as a playmaker in the process, the master of the midrange has put himself in prime position to take advantage of this well-earned reputation as a more versatile offensive threat.

At 31-years-old, DeRozan isn’t any sort of long-term for a team. Instead, he’s someone that will make an immediate impact for a squad in “win now” mode.

While many criticize his game as being outdated and inefficient, he has found ways to remain productive, even in the current NBA landscape. This season DeRozan averaged 21 points, 7 assists, and 4.4 rebounds per game on 49.3% shooting.

His next move has the potential to really shake up the NBA hierarchy.
