NBA Rumors: Kevin Durant Has Not Spoken To Kyrie Irving Since Nets Shut Him Down For The Season

It was his bond with Kyrie Irving that first brought Kevin Durant to Brooklyn in the first place. Following the reports of the two developing a close relationship, it was really only a matter of time before they found a way to join forces on the court.

But after just two seasons, some cracks are starting to show.

With Kyrie Irving benched for Nets’ home games, the best-case scenario for the crew would have involved him joining them on the road. Instead of dealing with the complications a part-time involvement by Irving would bring, the Nets decision-makers (which includes James Harden and Kevin Durant) ultimately decided to ban Irving from playing in any games at all until the matter is resolved.

Apparently, Durant and Irving haven’t spoken since that meeting took place.

Kevin Durant says he has not spoken to Kyrie Irving since Tuesday’s news of the Nets saying Irving will not play or practice with the team.

Kevin Durant says he “definitely wants Kyrie around” but he says “Kyrie made his decision… and the team did the same.” He wants the whole team together and at full strength but he hopes everything works out for both parties eventually.

Fans who question why this is significant (it hasn’t even been a full week, after all) should know that the pair used to talk and text ‘every day.’

“I’ve had someone reputable this week tell me their relationship is as strong as ever, that Durant and Kyrie talk every day and, if not, text every day,” Windhorst said back in 2019.

In a time like this, with so much attention and mystery surrounding Kyrie, one would think that KD would remain in the loop as one of his best friends.

And while nobody can claim the two aren’t friends anymore, their current situation could hint at their partnership on the Nets coming to an end.

At the very least, it’s a sign that things are tense in Brooklyn right now, and nobody (maybe not even Durant) really knows what’s going to happen.
