Russell Westbrook is having a great second season with the Los Angeles Lakers after spending a terrible first year in Southern California. The talented point guard has been willing to do anything new head coach Darvin Ham has told him to do, which has worked perfectly for him.

Coming off the bench, Russ has been on a tear, posting solid numbers with the Lakers, demonstrating that he’s not done. The former NBA MVP is well aware that his contribution off the bench is very valuable to the Lakers, and he’s even getting Sixth Man of the Year award consideration.

At the same time, trade rumors regarding Russ haven’t stopped and many people think that even though the Lakers will probably retain Russ if he keeps displaying this level, others believe that he can find another team in the association.

How Russell Westbrook Could End Up On Miami Heat

According to Eric Pincus of Bleacher Report, the Miami Heat could be a landing spot for Westbrook if he gets traded by the Lakers and then bought out by his hypothetical new team.

Potential trade partners wouldn’t necessarily desire Westbrook, Beverley or Nunn for what they bring to the court. Rather, they would be the necessary salaries needed to take on in order to nab the Lakers’ distant firsts (2027 and 2029), which have value in part because they’re long after James and Davis are projected to be with the franchise.

NBA sources have listed the Miami Heat as a potential destination for Westbrook as a post-trade buyout candidate.

Westbrook is having a great season, and he’s drawing more attention by the day. The Heat are struggling right now, unable to compete in the Eastern Conference. Some say Westbrook is perfect for their culture, and he could be the piece they need to turn things around. However, it remains unclear if the Lakers will trade him before the season ends.

Recent reports suggest that they’re more interested in parting ways with Kendrick Nunn and Patrick Beverley, so it’s unlikely that Russ will leave the team soon.
