The Los Angeles Lakers demonstrated they’re not done and they’re ready to make moves that will get them closer to back-to-back titles. They traded for Dennis Schroder to get their starting point guard, pretty much confirming Rajon Rondo won’t be part of the team next season. Contradicting reports put Rondo in different teams and staying with the Lakers but now the picture looks clear after the move for Schroder.
According to Fox Sports’ Nick Wright, the Lakers are convinced that Rondo is leaving and he already has options to play next season.
Sorry to interrupt the NFL Sunday but I’m hearing the Lakers are pretty convinced Rondo is gone.
Atlanta is the most likely destination with the Hawks hoping he can be a valuable veteran to help Trae Young’s development.

Brad Turner of the Los Angeles Times reported that Rondo could play for the Hawks and Clippers the upcoming season.
Sources: Rajon Rondo is expected to decline his player option for $2.6 million with the Lakers to become a free agent. Rondo will have teams after him, including the Clippers and Atlanta Hawks.

Rondo was a very valuable asset for the Lakers during their 2020 championship run. His experience and the way he plays in the postseason gave the Lakers an advantage that they never lost. Now he’s a 2x NBA champion, the only player who’s won titles with both the Boston Celtics and Los Angeles Lakers, but Rondo isn’t staying there. He wants more challenge, he wants to keep competing and also made the bank.
Free agency is just a couple of days away and we’ll know where Rondo will play next season. He won’t miss suitors but the decision will depend on what he wants to do with his career next.
