The chances are high that the Golden State Warriors will have a high lottery pick in the 2020 NBA Draft.
Due to injuries to several key players, they have had an abysmal regular season, going 15-50 before COVID-19 postponed the season indefinitely.
With the odds in their favor, they will look to do one of two things: trade the pick for an established veteran star, or draft someone and keep them with the hope that can help lead the franchise into the future. But who will they select?
Apparently, we can cross one name of the list: Australian basketball phenom LaMelo Ball.
Very, very low. League sources don’t believe the Warriors are high on Ball — not because of the drama surrounding his father, but because he’s quite flawed for a top-3 prospect, writes Connor Letourneau of the San Francisco Chronicle.
Ball’s court vision and passing ability are superb, but he has yet to prove he can knock down 3-pointers consistently, defend NBA athletes or improve his shot selection. There’s also the matter of positional fit. Ball projects as a point guard at the next level, and the Warriors already have a pretty darn good one in Curry.
So, it seems Ball still ha much to prove about his game. Not everyone is sold on his shot-making ability.
As for the Warriors, why draft a guy who plays in the backcourt when they already have Steph and Klay — the best backcourt pairing in history?
It seems that Melo just isn’t the right fit for them and that’s okay. He’ll be doing his thing regardless.
