NBA Rumors: Warriors Will Not Pick LaMelo Ball Or James Wiseman With Lottery Pick

2 Min Read

Much has been made about the Warriors’ pick in the upcoming 2020 NBA Draft. With Steph Curry and Klay Thompson returning to the fold next season, they’ve already got the means to compete for a title.

If they draft a star in this draft, it could make them that much more lethal.

And while we don’t yet know who they will pick, we do know who they won’t pick. According to Connor Letourneau of the San Francisco Chronicle, the Warriors “aren’t believed to be high” on prospects LaMelo Ball and James Wiseman.

According to multiple league sources The Chronicle contacted in the past few days, the Warriors — contrary to what mock drafts might suggest — aren’t believed to be high on two of the three players being mentioned as possibilities at the No. 1 pick: former Memphis center James Wiseman and point guard LaMelo Ball, who last played for the Illawarra Hawks of Australia’s National Basketball League. As one source put it, “I think they’d only take one of those two if they were trading down in the draft and taking them for another team.”

Letourneau named Deni Avdija as a name the team was interested in and many seem to have him high on their draft board.

As for LaMelo And Wiseman, both are considered to be favorites for the top two picks this summer. But, for whatever reason, the Warriors aren’t sold on either.

It’s likely that they will be looking for a player who is best suited for their current roster. They want a mature, pro-ready youngster who will fit with their current regime. That’s pretty specific, and it’s quite possible the team could just look to trade the pick instead.

Either way, be paying attention to what’s happening in Golden State this offseason — they could be on the verge of another championship run.
