Zach LaVine is one of the most enigmatic players in the NBA, but he has far outgrown the tag of a young player, entering his 10th season in the league next year.

LaVine has been wearing a Chicago Bulls jersey since 2017 and has emerged as an All-Star for the franchise, but a disappointing 22-23 season could spell the end of his time with the team. Bulls Insider K.C. Johnson has said that sources around the league don’t think LaVine will finish out his current contract with Chicago.

(34:45) “There is quite a bit of skepticism around the league that the Bulls and LaVine are gonna finish this five-year marriage that they entered with that next contract. This is coming from the outside and not the Bulls, but a quite a lot of people I talk to around the league that don’t think this is a long-term marriage that’s going to last.”

LaVine has four years left on his current contract, so trading him away may not be as easy as many would’ve thought. He has valid injury concerns, and teams around the league will be careful before making a move for LaVine given his lack of defensive ability and playoff experience.

What Could The Bulls Get For LaVine?

NBA Insider Marc Stein recently revealed that the Bulls have been taking meetings with Brandon Miller, the projected No. 3 pick in the Draft at the moment. Given the Bulls don’t have a lottery pick, it’s fair to assume they’re trying to jump up into the lottery by moving LaVine to a team like the Portland Trail Blazers to push their win-now timeline while the Bulls can rebuild around Miller.

The new CBA rules will make most contending teams think twice before making a move for LaVine due to him still being owed almost $180 million over the next four seasons. He averaged 24.8 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 4.2 assists this season, proving he can give you numbers on the court. But can he be a part of a winning culture? We won’t know until he’s moved.
