Just a season removed after torching the Clippers (his old team) for 44 points, the hype surrounding Detroit’s Blake Griffin appears to be fading.
The problems for Griffin started before the end of last season when the All-Star big man suffered a grueling knee injury. An offseason of surgery and recovery limited his training regimen in the summer, and Griffin has not been the same since.
In the midst of major struggles (he has shot 23.3% from the field and 11.6% from 3-point range in the past seven games), trade rumors surrounding the star have heated up in recent weeks, with the belief that the Pistons would be willing to move him in the right situation.
But, according to James Edwards III of The Athletic, moving Griffin might require additional compensation on the Pistons’ part. At the moment his trade value is low and there’s a sense around the league that Detroit would need to attach an asset or two for someone to take him off their hands.
As a 6x All-Star, and considered as one of the best bigs in the game at one point, it goes to show how far he’s fallen. This season, he’s averaging 15.5 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 3.3 assists on an abysmal 35.2% shooting. Detroit, losers of 8 in their last 10, are 11th in the East with a 12-22 record.
