NBA Rumors: Golden State Warriors Not Initiating Any Trade Talks On Their Young Players

The Golden State Warriors are an organization that has a great veteran core of Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green. With Thompson’s return from injury this season, they should be right back in the title chase. However, they also have a lot of future prospects as well, such as James Wiseman and Jonathan Kuminga.

Many among Warriors fans and media members speculated that the Golden State Warriors would attempt to trade their young players and some future assets for a win-now player to help them win another title. However, that hasn’t happened yet, and it may not end up happening at all.

A recent article by Anthony Slater of The Athletic has recently suggested that the Golden State Warriors haven’t really entertained training their young prospects for proven veterans and that they have “zero intention” of doing so in the foreseeable future.

That includes Curry, now locked into a long-term extension. His signature (and proceeding interview) was his vote of approval on the team’s planned path. The Warriors aren’t currently initiating any trade calls offering their young players for veterans, Simmons or otherwise. They have zero intention to do so in the coming weeks, sources confirm.

From this, it looks as though the Golden State Warriors are banking on the development of their prospects to help add some quality players next to Stephen Curry. While there are obviously risks with this plan, it could have immense payoffs in the future.

The key for the Golden State Warriors competing this year will be how quickly their players can contribute on a meaningful level. They will have a stretch of the season without Klay Thompson, and they’ll have to hold down the fort until he gets back. Hopefully, the Golden State Warriors can be competitive this season, and try to go for another championship.
