John Collins has been mentioned in trade rumors for a while now, as the Atlanta Hawks big man is still a player of interest around the league, yet no trade has been completed for him so far.

In recent weeks, teams like the Brooklyn Nets, Utah Jazz, and even the New Orleans Pelicans have been linked with a move for Collins, but nothing has happened with this interesting player.

The Atlanta Hawks appear to be ready to move him, but the situation doesn’t look that favorable for them. Collins can bring a lot to any team in the league, and the Hawks are well aware of that. However, the asking price for him isn’t the same anymore, and Atlanta could be looking for something different in return for John.

John Collins’ Asking Price Has Dramatically Decreased This Season

According to Sam Amick of The Athletic, the Hawks need at least a quality player to part with Collins, as his asking price is really low right now, and they don’t feel like they should ask for a first-rounder in exchange for Collins.

Young isn’t going anywhere. The same goes for Murray. Collins is the most likely one on the way out, of course, and it’s worth repeating that the asking price is known to have decreased significantly from recent years (per league sources, there is a focus on landing a quality player, or players, in return but no mandate for a first-round pick). That development is clearly a reflection of the focus on salvaging this season, as opposed to recouping the vast assets lost in the Murray trade with San Antonio in the summer. As we’ve reported recently, the Jazz and Rockets are known to be among the teams in pursuit.

The Hawks have been involved in controversy this season, especially with Trae Young and head coach Nate McMillan, and their 25-26 record doesn’t help their case to compete in the East this season. Perhaps moving a player will give them the assets to improve their level and face the rest of the season at a better level.

The trade deadline is around the corner, and Collins has suitors for his services. Time will tell which team finally acquires him.
