NBA Rumors: Lakers Could Trade For JJ Redick

2 Min Read

Fresh off their Championship season, the Los Angeles Lakers have no plans to slow down now.

After making multiple acquisitions in the offseason, GM Rob Pelinka has made it clear that he is willing to do whatever it takes to keep his team competitive for years to come.

With the West’s ever-changing landscape, and Father Time looming over “King” James, they might be looking to make another move before the trade deadline. In a recent article on Bleacher Report, Zach Buckley proposed one deal that would result in the Purple and Gold bringing in veteran sharpshooter JJ Redick.

Should the Lakers push for more shooting help, they don’t have to confine their search to the clearance section. The cost obviously grows the moment they leave it but so does the potential reward.

While players like Ellington or Bullock might only find minor roles in L.A., a hired gun like JJ Redick could work his way into a lot more. His off-ball movement could prove magical alongside a quarterback like James, and the mere threat of his shooting (career 41.4 percent from range) could give Davis more breathing room on the interior.

Redick has struggled out of the gate this season, scoring just 7.9 points on 29% shooting from three. The Pelicans, who had high aspirations for their own potential this year, have started with a record of 7-10.

In Los Angeles, Redick would be valuable in helping to stretch the floor for Anthony Davis and LeBron James. A new environment might be all the guy needs to get back on track.

Regardless, the Lakers will have their work cut out for them in their quest to repeat as Champions, and it will be interesting to watch.
