  • The New York Knicks could trade for Jrue Holiday
  • Holiday has interest from a number of teams
  • The Clippers are also a potential destination

The New York Knicks are a team that made the playoffs last season, and the team is in a good position to make another move that brings them closer to an NBA championship. They have a good amount of picks and a number of tradeable contracts.

A recent from Ian Begley of SNY revealed that the New York Knicks could target Jrue Holiday on the trade market. Holiday was recently moved to the Portland Trail Blazers in a deal that sent Damian Lillard to the Bucks.

“Entering the weekend, the Knicks and Clippers were among a presumably large group of teams with known interest in Holiday.”

“The Knicks have the draft capital to make a strong offer. They can send out several different combinations of players to make the math work.”

Jrue Holiday could be an interesting fit in the backcourt with Jalen Brunson due to his defensive ability, which will certainly make him a favorite of coach Thibodeau. He is also an elite shooter and can handle the ball.

This past season, Jrue Holiday averaged 19.3 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 7.4 assists per game, while shooting 38.4% from 3PT range. Hopefully, he is able to shine wherever he goes, and we’ll see what happens in the future.

The New York Knicks Will Have Some Competition For Jrue Holiday’s Services

There is no doubt that the New York Knicks are not the only team that is pursuing Jrue Holiday. A previous report revealed that Jrue Holiday is interested in joining the Lakers, Heat, and Clippers, and those teams are likely to target him as well.

“Am told Heat, LA teams, Boston, Chi., and Philly are teams of interest to Holiday. (Perhaps others, but those 6 in no order were mentioned to me).”

As of right now, it is clear that Jrue Holiday wants to compete for a championship wherever he ends up. We will see whether the Portland Trail Blazers will actually send him to a destination of his choice: they refused to send Damian Lillard to the Miami Heat despite that being his preferred landing spot. They could easily do the same thing with Jrue Holiday.

Hopefully, we see Jrue Holiday land on a competitor. A number of teams are ahead of the New York Knicks in the championship team-building process, and as of right now, it seems as though the Knicks are a far-out option for the veteran guard.

Jrue Holiday Can Be Very Impactful As A No. 3 Option

It is fair to say that Jrue Holiday isn’t the type of player that can take games over by himself. He was a No. 3 option on the championship-winning Milwaukee Bucks in 2021, and that is his ideal role.

There are a number of teams that could use Jrue Holiday’s two-way skill set. He is one of the best defenders in the league and can provide complementary offense. For a team that already has two stars, Holiday is an amazing acquisition.

There is of course a risk with acquiring Holiday. He can become a free agent in 2024 if he declines his player option worth $37.4 million, and thus teams are unlikely to give up premier assets for him.

Still, Jrue Holiday can be a difference-maker for a team that simply needs another good player to reach the next level. There is clearly a lot of interest in him and we’ll see where he ends up in the future.
